Story

Cunning and vengeful — that's a dachshund for you! :) She seems almost capable of speech, but has clearly decided against it: speaking would mean studying, working, and flipping pancakes. Besides, she knows she doesn't need to be smart. She's a beauty. I created this portrait from several photographs. The armchair and its design were invented during the sketching phase — in the original photo, the dog was lying on her own mattress. But an artist's job isn't just to copy a photograph; it's to find what is most interesting and important about the subject. I made several sketches and color studies, ultimately choosing red tones and rich patterns to give the portrait its warmth and personality.

Artistry

I painted this on canvas pre-primed with black gesso, applying oil paint in a thin layer to let the canvas texture show through. The style is decorative with elements of realism. The painting has not been varnished.
