Story

This painting is an expressive ode to the power of nature, thunderstorms, and the god Thor. The storm is ensouled, personified. The scale of the work lets you physically sense the fine line between inescapable, merciless elements and the divine grace brought by the first rain. The contrast between the boundless, monumental sky — stormy emerald and yellow — and the fragile, sun-drenched green hills with solitary trees below captures the grandeur of this moment. Inevitability, gifts, ruthlessness, grace. All in one.

Artistry

I first coated the canvas with a black primer, then with black oil paint. Over this dark ground, I applied oil paint in thin layers, allowing the texture of the canvas to remain visible through the paint. The painting has been varnished.
